Blackfoot Night-O 2016

at Cooking Lake/Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, Waskehegan Trailhead.

Yes, it’s still on – winter gear may be more appropriate than orienteering clothes!  NB: the area being used is completely surrounded by a fence. Come dressed for the weather – and be prepared for changes. Event goes rain or shine or s**w.

Three events-in-one:
Afternoon: family-friendly beginner activities – aimed at Kids Run Wild participants and their families, but everyone is welcome.
Late afternoon: BBQ
Evening: Night O Night Score O Rules
Come to one, two or all three!

Details and timetable:
from 2:00pm – registration (continues until 6:30pm). Everyone must register before taking part in any activities, and will be required to complete and sign a lilac waiver.
2:30pm – 4:30pm – family-friendly beginner activities in Field 7 (such as: following a flagged route through the forest, learn about contours out in the open)
4:45 – 5:45 pmBBQ (hot dogs, burgers, fixin’s)

Night O  Score event – find as many controls as you can within the time limit. Choice of an hour or two hours. Points given for each control, but points deducted for each minute late back. Controls will have reflective tape. SPORTident electronic timing. Night Score O Rules
Participants will need a headlamp (and perhaps a spare, or extra batteries), whistle, compass and something to tell the time. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear.
5:45 – 6:15pm registration for Night O for those who have not already done so.
6:00 pm (approx) maps handed out for planning (hint: expect to only be able to go two-thirds of the way you might go during a daytime event)
6:30 pm clear & check SI card, and mass start from the Texas gate.
7:30 (for the 1 hour event) or 8:30pm (for the 2 hour event) finish time. REPORT TO THE FINISH at the shelter.
9:00 pm Everyone must report back in by this time, so the organisers can go home.

FEES: these are per person and include all three activities

Kids Run Wild participants and their families FREE, but they must read, complete and sign a lilac waiver.

Other EOOC members (must read, complete and sign a lilac waiver):
Adults: $10/per person (includes all three activities)
Youth: $5/per person (includes all three activities)
7 and under (with their parents) FREE

Non-club members: (must read, complete and sign a lilac waiver):
Adults: $15/per person (includes all three activities)
Youth: $5/per person (includes all three activities)
7 and under (with their parents) FREE

DIRECTIONS: 20km east of Sherwood Park

YEAH! the Anthony Henday extension is OPEN!

Easiest route is east along the Yellowhead Hwy to the Elk Island National Park flag pole, then south down RR 210 for about 7km. Turn left into the Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, Waskehegan Staging Area parking lot. Registration will probably be in the shelter on the east side of the parking lot.

Or east along Baseline Road (becomes Twp 530) to the T junction with RR210. Turn right and go south for about 4km. Turn into the Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, Waskehegan Staging Area parking lot. Registration will probably be in the shelter on the east side of the parking lot.

Or east along Wye Road. Just after the road bends to the southeast, turn left onto Twp 524, crossing the railroad tracks. Continue east to the T junction with RR210. Turn right and drive south for just over 1km. Turn into the Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, Waskehegan Staging Area parking lot. Registration will probably be in the shelter on the east side of the parking lot.
