  • Notice – Special General Meeting March 24

The board of the Edmonton Overlanders Orienteering Club is holding a Special General Meeting via Zoom, Tuesday March 24 at 6pm. The purpose of the meeting is to consider the following amendment to our bylaws:

Replace 4.2(d) sentence 1 with: An individual may become an Honorary Member if the Board passes a motion at any Board Meeting recognizing the contributions of the individual to the Club or its objectives.

You can read the full text of the bylaws here.

The meeting is open to all 2026 members.

  • 2026 Membership is live

Our registration form for 2026 membership is now live on zone4.ca. Head over there to register yourself or your family. We’ve added the O-Pass (season’s pass) to the membership form so you now have the option of purchasing the two at the same time. If you’d rather not buy the O-Pass now, you will be able to purchase it separately closer to the start of the season.

You may have noticed that the annual membership fees have increased. Our intention is that the maximum fee for any household is $100.

    Here are a few scenarios:

    1. A household of 2 adults should choose the “Individual” option and select the individual fees for each member on the following pages. Their total will be $80.
    2. One parent registering themself a 2 children should also choose the “Individual” option. Their total will be $60.
    3. A household with two parents and three children should pick the “Household” option as their individual totals would be $110, exceeding our $100 household maximum.

If you have any questions about the registration form or the fees, please email info@orienteer.ab.ca.

  • New for 2026 – AOA Safe Sport Framework

    AOA Safe Sport  Guiding Principle

AOA is committed to policies and practices that make orienteering in Alberta safe for everyone. Participants, athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers have the right to a safe, accessible, and inclusive environment free from abuse, harassment, and discrimination. The Safe Sport framework emphasizes education, prevention, and response, supported by clear policies and procedures to ensure all members can enjoy a fun, healthy, and safe experience.

    https://www.orienteeringalberta.ca/safe-sport.html

At the beginning of 2026, the EOOC and FWOC, following the AOA’s lead, adopted the Alberta Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (AB UCCM). This provincial code aligns with the national universal code of conduct and sets clear standards of behaviour for all participants in our sport.

You may have noticed the newly-added “report a complaint” button in our website’s footer. This button links to the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM) which provides independent intake, case management, and resolution for Safe Sport concerns.

To learn more, visit the ASLA Site or head to the Alberta Orienteering Association’s Safe Sport Framework page

    City Park events

In addition to our regular city events, we will have a full slate of forest events this year. So far we have three events planned for the spring, as follows:

    •  3 May – Blackfoot Central – re-run of the Canadian Orienteering Championship courses
    •  9 May – Morningside
    • 30 May – Bruderheim

Summer will be full of A and B events across the country, but we would like to host a few more forest events in the late summer or fall.

If you are an O200 or O300 official and are interested in planning a fall forest event, please let us know. We can negotiate dates and locations to suit.

If you are an O100 level official and would like to gain forest experience to help prepare you for upgrading to O200 or just for fun, also let me know and we will arrange an “apprenticeship”. This could be for either spring or fall events.
