AOA Safe Sport Guiding Principle
AOA is committed to policies and practices that make orienteering in Alberta safe for everyone. Participants, athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers have the right to a safe, accessible, and inclusive environment free from abuse, harassment, and discrimination. The Safe Sport framework emphasizes education, prevention, and response, supported by clear policies and procedures to ensure all members can enjoy a fun, healthy, and safe experience.

At the beginning of 2026, the EOOC and FWOC, following the AOA’s lead, adopted the Alberta Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (AB UCCM). This provincial code aligns with the national universal code of conduct and sets clear standards of behaviour for all participants in our sport.
You may have noticed the newly-added “report a complaint” button in our website’s footer. This button links to the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM) which provides independent intake, case management, and resolution for Safe Sport concerns.
