Wednesday May 23  orienteering event  FAQs
Gold Bar Park east off 50th Street at about 110 Avenue, but south of the North Saskatchewan River. Drive into the park, and park in the main lot.  Walk over towards the main shelter (washrooms inside);  look for the orienteering banner.  Location map
Event goes rain or shine or ....
NB: there are some new and/or realigned trails, mostly shown on the map, but the piles of dirt and wood shavings will not be shown.
Long pants recommended for the medium and long courses.
Registration is from 6:30 - 7:30pm.  Beginners' clinics available on demand during the same time frame.
Courses:
- a short/easy course 2.6km with little or no route choice (suitable for absolute beginners or families with small children) - stroller-accessible with some serious pushing!
- a short medium course 3.3km, which would be suitable for those who have been doing the short/easy, but want to try something a little bit more challenging (it starts off fairly easy);
- a regular medium course  4.3km  (appropriate for city cup participants)
- and a long course, about 6 km.
Course closing will be at 9pm - you must check back in before then.
This is my first time.  What do I do?
I want to renew or purchase a membership.

If you have never been to an EOOC orienteering event before:
Come dressed for the weather.
People wearing name tags are organizers and helpers;  the ones wearing permanent tags will probably be the most knowledgeable.
Find the table with the blue waiver sheets.  Fill in a form (both sides) - one for each household.  Every non-member going out on an orienteering course must sign a waiver each time they come.
Take the completed form (but not the clipboard!) to the registration table.
The entry fee for non-members is $10/map, which can be shared.  You will be given a map by the registrar.
If you need a beginner's clinic, take your map to anyone wearing a name tag.
The registrar and/or the clinic person will direct you to the starter.  He will give you a code to remember (such as "M27")
Go out and have fun finding the ribbons; copy the answers from the ribbons if you wish.
IMPORTANT: you must check back in by 9pm. Remembering  the code will help them find you on the start list. Cookies and water await, plus other orienteers to share your experiences with.
If you decide you want to buy a membership when you get back, go to the Membership table. (An adjustment will be made to reflect the extra fee you paid for your map for this event only).

To renew or purchase a membership:
Extra brownie points if you come with your form already filled in!  download the form.  Take the form and payment to the MEMBERSHIP table.  Cash or cheque accepted.  NB there is a different payee for full memberships and associate memberships.
